#MetalWeekend - Twilight of the Thunder God - Amon Amarth

today, for the #MetalWeekend edition, the # tag brought by @detlev and supported by @uwelang I want to show you a death metal band that I like. This one, like most death metal bands, is coming from Sweden and it is called Amon Amarth.

For me their best album is Twilight of the Thunder God.

Twilight of the Thunder God is also the song opening the album and I like it also the most from all.

The name refers to the legend of Thor slaying thr Midgard Serpent Jörmungandr.

Jörmungandr was one Loki's children and was a sea monster.

The album refferes to a lot of elements that are mythology, like Einherjar or have existed in the history like Varyags of Miklagaard - Varangian Guard.

Einherjar are those who have died in battle and are brought to Valhalla by valkyries.

On the other side, the Varyags of Miklagaard - Varangian Guard really existed for 5 centuries and have been an elite army that was protecting the Byzantine emperor.

They have been recruited from the North of Europe, deliberately, as they did not swear to local noblemen, that could endanger the emperor in a revolt.

It is interesting how much history and knowledge such a death-metal can bring with itself. These guys paid a lot of attention to these details, and it is interesting to find all the Easter eggs related to a song.

Happy listening!
